Position Overview:

We are seeking a compassionate and dedicated Volunteer Sports Mental Health Therapist to join our team. This role is pivotal in supporting athletes and individuals engaged in sports by providing mental health support tailored to the unique pressures of sporting environments. The successful candidate will work collaboratively with coaches, athletes, and other stakeholders to promote mental well-being and resilience within the sporting community.

Key Responsibilities:

- Provide individual and group therapy sessions to athletes, focusing on mental health issues related to sports performance, stress management, anxiety, and confidence building.

- Conduct assessments to identify mental health needs and develop personalised treatment plans.

- Facilitate workshops and seminars on mental health awareness, coping strategies, and performance enhancement techniques.

- Collaborate with coaches and sports staff to create a supportive environment that prioritises mental wellness.

- Maintain accurate documentation of sessions and progress while adhering to confidentiality protocols.

- Stay informed about current research and best practices in sports psychology and mental health therapy.

- Participate in regular supervision and training sessions to enhance professional development.

Qualifications:

- A relevant degree in Psychology, Counselling, Sports Psychology, or a related field.

- Certification or licensure as a therapist or counsellor is preferred but not mandatory.

- Experience working with athletes or in a sports environment is highly desirable.

- Strong understanding of mental health issues within the context of sports performance.

- Excellent communication and interpersonal skills, with the ability to build rapport with diverse individuals.

- Empathy, patience, and a genuine passion for promoting mental health in the sporting community.

Commitment:

This is a volunteer position requiring a commitment of 3 hours per week. Flexibility in scheduling is appreciated to accommodate training sessions and events.
